Jane Zhang & Linda Perry: What’s Up ?

Hey ragazzi, chi di voi ricorda Linda Perry ?

Bravi! Proprio lei … la leader del gruppo “4 Non Blondes ” che ebbe successo agli inizi degli anni ’90.
Il gruppo diede vita ad un solo album registrato in studio “Bigger, Better, Faster, More! ” che includeva la famosa “What’s Up ? ” scritta dalla stessa Perry.  Il pezzo scalò tutte le classifiche musicali del mondo nel 1993 ed in USA raggiunse la posizione numero 14 della Billboard Hot 100.

Una particolarità di questo brano che pochi notano: la frase “What’s Up ? ” non è affatto presente nel testo che invece contiene più volte “What’s Going On ? “.

Linda è compositrice, cantante, suona piano e chitarra. Lasciati i 4 Non Blondes intraprende la carriera di solista ed ora è una produttrice discografica di successo.

Jane e Linda si re-incontrano nel 2014 (all’epoca si conoscono già da 4 anni) e Jane per la prima volta le racconta che ama cantare “What’s Up? ” da 13 anni e non riesce a smettere 🙂

Il sogno di Jane si avvera: una chitarra e due voci per questa interpretazione improvvisata e piena di divertimento di un grande pezzo che ha fatto storia.

Il secondo video che vi propongo è la stessa canzone cantata da Jane durante il Tour Bang the World 2015 a Pechino. Qui l’acustica e le riprese sono di prim’ordine e l’arrangiamento segue abbastanza fedelmente l’originale del 1993.
