Jane Zhang at Baolong Square Music Live Festival
In front of a large audience from the prefecture of Mianyang (绵阳) and in general from across the province of Sichuan (四川) Jane gets on the stage more sexy than ever: the new hairstyle, black shorts by TopShop, black jacket by MONSE that leaves plenty discovered the left shoulder and high heel shoes by Saint Laurent.
Let’s say that between her eyes, smile, shoulder and legs we cannot say what’s the sexiest thing we saw … we’ve to think about it !
The songs for this evening were “Painted Heart II” (畫心II), “If This Is Love” (如果這就是愛情) and “Until Finally You” (終於等到你).
The videos
Here’s the full video of Dolphin Princess in concert. We invite you to notice what happens at minute 6:10. Jane greets the audience and smiles naturally as her voice “touches” such high notes that other singers don’t they would be able to propose, and anyway not without a concentration effort.
This other HD video is shot by a fancam to which we have, however, superimposed the official audio.
Painted Heart II
It’s worthwhile to know something more about the history a bit ‘special of the first song, one of the most famous songs of Jane Zhang: “Painted Heart II” (画皮 II).
Originally this piece, the “Painted Skin II” (画皮II) movie theme-song, shouldn’t have been interpreted by Jane Zhang despite she had sung the original version of the song that was written for the OST of the previous film in the saga.
So there was a wide range of singers for the choise of its interpreter, nevertheless both the movie director and the music producer made their decision: the theme-song would be sung by Jane.
But the Dolphin Princess had already rejected this proposal once. This didn’t stop producer and lyricist Chen Shaoqi (陈少琪) who contacted Jane to try to persuade her in midnight on June 1, 2012.
The two spent the entire night discussing in detail the changes to the song and its arrangement to give it special musical connotations that would make sense to propose to the audience a piece which in 2009 had already made history of Chinese music and cinema winning the “Best Original Film Song Award” at the 28th Hong Kong Film Awards. Only at the end of this long night Jane decided to accept to sing “Painted Heart II”.
From that moment the song is ready in record time, just 5 days: the official recording sees the light of the sun on 3 June and the post-production is completed on 5 June.
“Painted Heart II” preserves the essence of the original “Painted Heart” which unites the soul of the new movie.
The arrangement chosen gives the piece a distinctive character compared to the original of 2009: the incipit performed by the strings creates a particularly ethereal atmosphere for a full 1 minute during which the listener seems to be catapulted into the “fairyland”.
Jane’s voice is crystal clear and delicate like the most precious Chinese silk while avoiding (expressly) the “dolphin sound” so that the song may be closer to pop music, and with more relaxing sounds throughout its duration. This makes Jane’s rendition even more touching, more engaging emotionally.
Returning to Jiangyou version, however, there’s something special to note: during the opening Jane didn’t resist to introduce her “dolphin sound” in the arrangement, and the same thing happened during the Chengdu stage of Jane’s Secret World Tour. In practice, some of the “special signs” of the first version come back to the piece, joining with the different arrangement of this second version.
It’s like Jane was giving birth to a “Painted Heart III”.
